Eames Chair を考察
Charles and Ray Eames are among the most important American designers of the 20th century. In the early '40s, the Eameses were the first to be able to design and mass-produce molded plywood furniture with compound curves.
Their work came to the attention of the military early in World War II, and the Eameses were brought in to the war effort to design molded plywood splints, stretchers ,and airplane parts.
After the war they continued their work in furniture design. In 1956, they released their iconic Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, made of molded plywood and leather.
This luxury item was their one exception.
At the time Charles was aiming for a chair with “the warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman’s mitt (一塁手のミット) and Ray was aiming for one with “ comfortable and un-designy.”
In 1949, they built the landmark of mid-20th century modern architecture Case Study House No.8, constructed entirely of “ off-the-shelf (特別誂えでない)parts available from steel prefabrication catalogs. ( The plan of the house was changed to sit quietly behind an existing row of trees and avoid impinging on the meadow in front of the house. )
Through film, art, construction, destruction, and reinvention, the loving couple expressed their brilliance through having unadulterated fun. So go out, create, fall on your ass 、be silly, because the fact of the matter is , the two gods of architecture, design, and creativity weren’t even qualified to do any of it themselves. They just wanted to.
