Dream of A Strange Land （Graham Greene from complete short stories）
It was one of these poorer patients who stood now in the doctor’s study listening to his doom.
The Herr Professor said,
“Contagious cases must always go to the hospital. Hansen’s disease is eventually
curable. My dear sir, you must not try to bribe me.”
Later that morning the Herr Professor received another caller.
The Herr Colonel said,
"I come to you, Herr Professor, quite simply to borrow your house for this evening (for celebrating the Herr General’s seventieth birthday tonight)
The wrong house? But this is not the wrong house; it is the wrong country. He felt that he could never find his way home from here-----it was too far away.
The patient saw the Herr Professor standing with his back to the window at the other end of the great room, beyond the second chandelier, and they regarded each other, with the laughter and cries and glitter of light between them.
The Herr Professor could not properly see the patient. But the patient could even see his expression, the lost look on his face like that of someone who has come to the wrong party.
Somewhere far away behind the voices there was a faint explosion.
The Herr Professor looked at the window, where he had thought a moment ago that someone looked in as lost as himself, but no one was there.

The Barbie doll was invented in 1959 by Ruth Handler, whose own daughter was named Barbara. Barbie was introduced to the world at the American Toy Fair in New York City. Barbie’s job was to serve as a teenage fashion doll.
Handler expressed her view: little girls were playing with 2-D paper baby dolls to play mommy . I saw an opportunity for a 3-D adult-bodied doll to play out girls’ dreams of being adults in the future.
During a trip to Europe in 1956 , Handler came across a German toy doll called Bild Lilli.
Bild Lilli cartoons were created by a staff artist of Die Bild-Zeitung(German for The Picture Newspaper). The Lilli doll was originally marketed to adults and sold in bars and tobacco shops as a gag gift or novelty item. But she eventually became popular with children. There was a market for dolls with adult figures.
Handler redesigned the doll with the help of a Mattel engineer, and the doll made its debut on March 9, 1959. This date is also Barbie’s official birthday.
Barbie has always maintained her independence and has had many careers that represent adulthood and allow children to imagine themselves as teenagers or adults.
